AutoCAD 2004, AutoCAD Mechanical 2004, Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2004 and Autodesk Map 2004 were scheduled for spring 2003. The product family adopts a Windows XP-style interface and adds controls for configuring workspaces around individual projects. New palettes hold frequently used elements for quick access. AutoCAD 2004 also expands the presentation of 2D design drawings without requiring elaborate 3D animation. True Colour support and predefined RAL and Pantone palettes provide spatial and reflective effects. A new data format, compressed by 40 to 60 percent, is intended to improve performance and simplify exchange with users who do not have AutoCAD licences.
Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2004 adds an improved interface and new floor and drawing management for structuring building models. Its integrated VIZ renderer visualises lighting effects.
AutoCAD Mechanical 2004 has been redesigned and adds twelve commands. Its integrated component structure allows a top-down, bottom-up or mixed middle-out workflow in 2D design.
The German version of AutoCAD 2004 was available immediately for €5,220, with the remaining applications scheduled for April.
