SolidWorks Updates 3D CAD Software Line

SolidWorks updates Office Professional and introduces the free 3D ContentCentral directory for design workflows.

Office Professional combines SolidWorks 3D CAD and its existing six tools with two additional applications: eDrawings Professional and PDMWorks. eDrawings Professional supports distribution of documents and design information by email. Users can add changes and comments, take measurements within drawings, and use Quick Tips for guidance. eDrawings also preserves exploded views from SolidWorks. PDMWorks adds production-data management, using automatic revision control to track design activity and reduce errors caused by accidental overwriting.

PhotoWorks 2.0 is also included with SolidWorks Office Professional. The rendering software adds functions for improved representation of materials, light and shadows. Contour rendering can hide outer components in an assembly and display only the internal component. Users can also add more precise lighting effects to their designs and control reflections across changing geometry and background scenes. SolidWorks Office Professional is priced at €8,600.

SolidWorks also developed 3D ContentCentral, an online directory providing worldwide access to supplier components and 3D CAD models. Users can search for purchased parts from international manufacturers and load a selected model directly into a product design without modelling it first. This supports checks of component compatibility and design precision.
