Avid makes work easier: Cologne music broadcaster VIVA looks back with satisfaction on the investment made at the beginning of the year in the Avid Unity MediaNetwork storage system and several nonlinear workstations from Avid. VIVA is expanding its Avid systems with eight new Media Composer 1000 XL systems. This means a total of ten Avid Media Composers are now in use at VIVA and, in conjunction with the Unity system, ensure optimal workflows within a modern media network.
After a successful and quite short introduction and test phase in January 2003, all systems at VIVA are now running stably and the music broadcaster is already benefiting from the more efficient workflows. For example, the time-consuming search for the right tapes is eliminated completely. VIVA rated the reduced effort for the administration and management of workspaces and media data particularly positively.
With Avid Unity MediaNetwork, the same material can now be accessed in parallel by different departments and employees because the projects no longer have to be edited locally on individual disks. This time saving is particularly noticeable in the production of the current six chart programs. Because the same placings often occur in several countries, it is now possible to access the same titles multiple times without problems.
VIVA also uses the new software features of Media Composer Version 11.x – such as Time Warp motion effects. In addition to the professional audio tools, the editors at VIVA also use the new Chunking function – introduced in Media Composer Version 11 – when needed. This allows other systems in the Unity network to access the material while it is still being digitized.
