Digimation announced today that it has begun shipping SpeedTree 2.0 for 3ds max 4.x/5.x (a version will be available for 3ds max 6 when it ships), and SpeedTree VIZ 2.0 for Autodesk VIZ 4. SpeedTree 2 is the latest update to the successful SpeedTree plug-in launched last year. SpeedTree 2.0 includes support for palm trees, trees with even smaller polygon counts, and a completely rewritten foresting tool.
SpeedTree 2.0 comes with a standalone tree editing package called SpeedTree CAD Lite. It also comes with a set of plug-ins for 3ds max 4.x/5.x to import and work with SpeedTree trees inside 3ds max. SpeedTree 2.0 ships with a library of approximately 36 different tree species, each in two or three different resolutions and polygon counts to get users started. In addition, SpeedTree 2.0 fully supports network licensing and license transfers for greater flexibility.
Price and Availability
SpeedTree 2 is now available for $295 until August 31, 2003, after which it will have an SRP of $395. Upgrades from SpeedTreeMAX are $100. Volume discounts, site licensing and educational versions are also available. A 15-day time-limited demo can be downloaded from http://www.digimation.com.
