These systems make it possible to convert newsrooms completely to digital, tapeless workflows. P2 memory cards are based on Panasonic’s SD (Secure Digital) memory modules and are compatible with PCMCIA slots on commercially available computers. Currently, 18 minutes of video in DVCPRO format and nine minutes in DVCPRO50 format can be stored on PCMCIA Type II cards. Within a few months, DVCPRO-P2 memory cards are expected to be readable directly by Vortex newsroom solutions, Liquid NLE systems, MediaStream servers and Palladium network storage systems and usable as a playback medium.
