Discreet Introduces 3ds Max 7.5 for Subscription Customers

The subscription update adds hair and fur, mental ray 3.4 and integrated visualisation tools

Discreet plans to provide 3ds Max 7.5 as an exclusive upgrade for subscription customers from mid-April. Developed for full compatibility with 3ds Max 7, the release adds integrated hair and fur creation and animation systems, mental ray 3.4, and a design toolset connecting 3ds Max features with DWG-based 3D CAD applications such as Autodesk VIZ and Autodesk Revit.

– Hair and Fur: Based on Joe Alter’s Shave and a Haircut, 3ds Max 7.5 provides styling and dynamics tools for realistic hair and related effects. These include styling tools, Hair Dynamics, mental ray integration for fast, memory-efficient direct rendering with native mental ray hair primitives, and Hair Plus for using geometric examples as individual objects.

– mental ray 3.4: Every 3ds Max 7.5 licence now provides access to the rendering system’s features.

– The new version combines advanced modelling functions from 3ds Max and Autodesk VIZ for product designers, architects and engineers. Radiosity Adaptive Subdivision adds adaptive subdivision to the radiosity plug-in for higher quality and more efficient, error-free processing. Batch Render produces a sequence of stills from different viewpoints. UVW Mapping Improvement places materials at scale more easily and accurately. Scene State stores objects, layers, materials, cameras and lighting as a reusable scene state. Autodesk Revit 7 interoperability lets users import a Revit model through DWG and produce high-quality images in 3ds Max. Autodesk Inventor 7 interoperability provides direct access to Inventor files through the import tool. DWF export sends 3ds Max 7.5 objects to Autodesk DWF Viewer or Composer.
