Autodesk has given its Discreet systems new versions, including Discreet Fire 7.0 and Discreet Smoke 7.0, the visual effects systems Discreet Inferno 6.5, Discreet Flame 9.5 and Discreet Flint 9.5, as well as Discreet Lustre 2.6 for digital colour correction. The SGI-based Autodesk systems Fire, Smoke, Inferno and Flame contain a new 64-bit architecture.

Important new functions in Fire 7.0 and Smoke 7.0 are a new, optimised Timewarp, Clip History, Soft Text in the Timeline – the direct creation, editing and playback of text in the timeline without rendering – an overlay user interface for colour correction and support for DPX keycode.

Important new functions in Inferno 6.5, Flame 9.5 and Flint 9.5 are Motion Estimation Timewarp – new Autodesk algorithms for calculating motion that deliver expanded time-warping functions for first-class slow-motion and fast-motion effects – and layer-based colour: A colour module that offers its users a high-resolution colour system with more design flexibility for layer-based graphics creation within the Batch workflow.

The most important new functions in Lustre 2.6 include a new editorial metadata architecture and a new subsystem, XML-based edit files, expanded handling of film keycode and video timecode, an expanded flags system and new integrated notes for improved collaboration on the project, improved linear-mode primary colour correction and a user-selectable keyer source as Pre/Post Input Primary.

According to the manufacturer, the systems Fire 7.0, Smoke 7.0 and Lustre 2.6 are available now. Inferno 6.5, Flame 9.5 and Flint 9.5 will probably not be available until the end of September 2005.
