The international young talent competition eDward wants to give young filmmakers a stage for their talent and open up career opportunities. The worldwide call is aimed at creatives up to 30 years old, especially students, junior agency staff and freelancers, who are called upon to prove their talent individually or in teams with a 30-second spot. The submission deadline is September 7, 2005.
This year’s theme is “Artificial People”, who have always been an important motif, especially in the history of film. With digital technologies, filmmakers finally acquired the ability to create artificial people themselves. Meanwhile, the figures created in the computer appear so real that they can hardly be distinguished from real people.
The questions for the young filmmakers are: What is artificial, what is natural? Where will this development lead? Is an artificial person also an individual? Or: What makes a digital figure in a film credible? What is the source of its fascination?
Films that seek answers to these questions are being sought. Animated figures or digital characters can, but do not have to, be part of the film.
The winner receives 2,500 euros and the eDward trophy. In addition to the prize money, there are again many interesting non-cash prizes to be won this year, including Adobe Video Collection 2.5 and Avid Xpress Pro HD software as well as free participation in an SAE Institute workshop on “Digital Film and Animation”. The award ceremony takes place as part of the eDIT 8. Filmmaker’s Festival (9.-11. October 2005) in Frankfurt.
