The privately financed German Film School in Elstal near Berlin is establishing the new Character & Design Development master’s degree program for spring 2006. Supervised by an internationally experienced team of lecturers and equipped with modern hardware and software tools, the students are intended to learn a great deal of craft and practice at a high, professional level.
The two-year postgraduate degree program teaches the design and development of animated 2D and 3D characters. The admission requirement is a completed bachelor’s or diploma degree as a Digital Artist or graphic designer in the fields of film, television or art. The students can graduate as internationally recognized masters (MA). The degree program director is Harald Siepermann, Character Designer at Walt Disney Studios (“Tarzan,” “Mulan,” “Brother Bear,” “Treasure Planet”) – the Bochum native also helped develop the degree program. The language of instruction is English; the teaching content includes, among other things, storytelling and storyboarding, character development and design (2D and 3D), Creature Design, acting lessons for animators, Maya training, as well as marketing and self-management fundamentals.
“Harald Siepermann not only guarantees a high degree of professionalism and international quality,” explains Filmschool founder Professor Bernd Willim: “Rather, he stands for keeping the innovative master’s degree program close to the requirements of international studios and markets.”
Tuition fees range between 16,980 euros and 19,240 euros, depending on payment method and registration. The start date is March 1, 2006. Interested parties can obtain information in advance on the Filmschool website and request application documents there or download them directly.
