DaVinci Resolve FX is the smaller system in the Resolve range and is intended for previsualization. It is also equipped with PowerPlant, introduced previously and required for real-time performance.
Resolve DI was designed for digital-intermediate applications that do not need to operate in real time and demand the highest possible quality. This version contains PowerGrid2, a combination of two PowerPlant boards that substantially accelerates the work.
Resolve RT is the most extensive software version and includes three PowerPlant boards, a configuration called PowerGrid3. This version can colour-correct footage in real time at the highest quality. The virtual signal can also be examined on a vectorscope.
Additional PowerPlants and PowerGrads can be added to Resolve RT and DI to increase performance and real-time capability further. The new Resolve versions are due to become available later this year, but DaVinci has not announced prices.
With Transformer, DaVinci is presenting a real-time resizer for 2K and 4K footage at IBC. The system can enlarge and reduce 4K and 2K material and perform effects including pan and scan, tilt and zoom. Transformer can also perform colour-space conversions using one-dimensional and three-dimensional look-up tables. This system is also scheduled to ship during 2005; its price is not yet known.
