With the introduction of Edius Broadcast, Canopus is combining its video-production, encoding and codec technologies in one package. According to the manufacturer, Edius Broadcast was developed to meet the high standards and rapid product cycles of the broadcast sector and the requirements of postproduction, while supporting new tapeless and storage systems.
Professional editors are given all the real-time editing capabilities through a streamlined, clearly arranged interface so they can deliver content quickly. At its core, Edius Broadcast includes Edius Pro 3 real-time video-editing software, which provides real-time mixed-format editing of uncompressed SD, HD, HDV, DV, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1, along with the Edius Speed Encoder for HDV for rapid HDV video output. The system supports standard equipment and formats including DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO P2, Panasonic VariCam, Sony XDCAM Professional Disc and Windows Media.
“The new tapeless and storage systems from Panasonic and Sony are having a major impact on the broadcast world, especially news and film production,” said Canopus founder and chairman Hiro Yamada. “Combining the unique, well-structured feature set of Speed Encoder and Edius Pro 3 in the clear user interface creates a genuinely efficient editing experience that is highly valued by video editors who need to deliver their content as quickly as possible.”
Canopus’ Speed Encoder software is intended to accelerate HDV output from Edius Broadcast by making full use of dual-core CPUs. “Normally only one CPU is used when encoding the HDV format, even when multiple CPUs are available,” Yamada explained. “The Edius Speed Encoder for HDV is also optimized for the very latest dual-core systems and therefore sets new standards in HDV file encoding.”
Edius Broadcast is due to become available from Canopus and authorized Canopus dealers at the end of December at a recommended retail price of €999. Edius Pro 3 users can upgrade to Edius Broadcast for €499.
