Autodesk now also offers Discreet Inferno for the Linux operating system. Artists can use the visual-effects and compositing system to edit moving images at broadcasters as well as in film and post-production studios. The system includes a powerful toolset for compositing and offers advanced graphics functions as well as an interactive design.
Until now, the Discreet Inferno system was available only in an IRIX version, which will continue to be available in conjunction with an SGI Onyx 350 visualization system.
Autodesk introduced the Linux-based configuration of Inferno 6.5 exclusively for the Japanese market in November 2005. With some changes, it will now be available worldwide on Linux-based IBM dual-core AMD workstations.
Autodesk gives the availability date as the end of April 2006.
