By Christmas, Digital Rapids finally wants to release its long-awaited CarbonHD playout software for the StreamZHD encoder card. Although the card has a video output, the software for it has been missing until now.
CarbonHD is intended to make it possible to use a computer with StreamZHD hardware as a digital deck. According to Digital Rapids’ plans, the machine can then be remote-controlled like a VTR via the RS-422 interface and can output content in a wide variety of formats, ranging from WMV in web quality to uncompressed HD material. By creating playlists, the software can also function as a playout centre. Carbon HD will cost 4,999 euros.
A free player version is already available for existing StreamZHD owners. It makes it possible to output all media files for which a DirectX filter exists via Digital Rapids hardware. However, the software is functionally limited and can only load individual files and output them.
