After negotiations that dragged on for ten months, AMD – the world’s second-largest processor manufacturer after Intel – has completed the takeover of graphics-card specialist ATI. In the end, ATI’s shareholders received 4.2 billion dollars in cash as well as 57 million AMD shares with a current market value of 1.2 billion dollars.
The new group has around 14,900 employees distributed across the globe. The company headquarters remains AMD’s headquarters in Sunnyvale, California.
AMD announced that it intends to work particularly on new products in the coming years that integrate CPU and GPU more closely on the same silicon carrier. The company intends to bring results to market from 2008.
