Until June 15, bachelor’s graduates and students changing fields from computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering and other related subjects can apply for the interdisciplinary “Visual Computing” master’s degree program at Saarland University. According to university information, as the first degree program in Germany, this course of study is intended to convey broad theoretical and practical specialist knowledge for creating, processing and analyzing digital images.
Knowledge in the field of Visual Computing is in demand today in many sectors, including medical technology, the automotive industry and robotics as well as the media and entertainment sector, states Saarbrücken University. Computer science, mathematics and mechatronics at Saarland University are involved in the English-language degree program, which only started in autumn 2006 and is designed for four semesters. Professors of medical technology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering in St. Ingbert and Saarbrücken’s Max Planck Institute for Computer Science are also involved. Participants in the new master’s degree program will work closely with the professors and be integrated into their research groups. As a result, they will also receive intensive supervision from the numerous academic staff at the university and the computer science research institutes in Saarbrücken.
