Already on the official opening day, July 3, the film takes in 27.5 million US dollars – and is thus 30 percent stronger than the previous leaders “War of the Worlds” and “Superman Returns.” Records tumbled again on July 4: With 29 million US dollars on “Independance Day,” Transformers continued its triumphant march through cinemas and took the crown as the best opening of a film on July 4 ever. Including the previews on Monday, the cumulative result after just three days is 65.7 million US dollars with a total of 4,011 opening prints.
For Transformers, this means the best opening of a non-sequel film of all time. “Transformers” will break the 130 million US dollar mark as early as next weekend. “Transformers” thus joins the series of successful films by Michael Bay (“Pearl Harbour,” “Armageddon,” “The Rock”) seamlessly.
The Transformers also stepped on the gas internationally on July 4. In Russia, the film took in 2.4 million US dollars in the first two days, exceeding “King Kong” by a full 100 percent‚ “Mission Impossiblle III” even by 187 percent. Spain is around 90 percent ahead of the “King Kong” best mark with 763,000 US dollars.
Sweden recorded an outstanding first day at 88 locations with 415,000 US dollars – including previews: 54 percent more than “War of the Worlds,” 43 percent more than “Mission Impossible III,” 51 percent more than “Superman Returns,” and 29 percent more than “Armageddon.”
Denmark reports 203,000 US dollars and with this result is also ahead of “Mission Impossible III,” as is Norway, where Transformers has taken in 506,000 US dollars including previews.
Transformers opens in German cinemas on August 2, 2007, distributed by Universal Pictures International Germany.
