Steul: “Our absolute unique selling point lies in the regional. This must be implemented surprisingly, modernly and creatively.” The main task was to improve entry into the regional early evening through a higher audience flow. Changes to the 6:00 p.m. news, to “Baden-Württemberg aktuell”, are intended to be one step toward this. Steul: “The news should become faster and fresher.” Optimization of the regional news at 6:00 p.m. is intended to be only one of many steps.
An intensive discussion about changes to the entire stretch between 6:15 and 6:45 p.m. is currently being held within the Regional Broadcasting Directorate, Steul explained to the committee. These changes are to be made in stages by the turn of the year. According to Steul, these include optimizations of existing programmes as well as the introduction of a new series “Reportage Baden-Württemberg” , or also the first broadcast and further development of “Fahr mal hin” in the regional slot. Sport in the Monday early-evening programme is also affected by the changes. Steul: “The audience figures show that this great programme is quite obviously broadcast at the wrong time.” Sport must be placed differently, Steul said. The Chairman of the Baden-Württemberg Regional Broadcasting Council, Horst Bäuerle, suggested at the meeting that mass-participation sport should continue to be presented effectively on SWR television.
