Bergman was considered one of the most important filmmakers of the 20th century and an explorer of the soul on the screen. In 1997, at the 50th Film Festival in Cannes, he received the «Palm of Palms» for his overall achievement and had already received an Oscar in Hollywood in 1970 for his lifetime achievement. In 1984, he was honored with an Oscar for his last major feature film «Fanny and Alexander».
