Geyer Berlin Adds Autodesk Lustre HD

CinePostproduction’s Geyer Berlin facility adds an Autodesk Lustre HD system for real-time television grading.

Autodesk has added another German facility to its list of Lustre installations. CinePostproduction’s Geyer Berlin branch, part of CineMedia Film AG, has ordered a Lustre HD system after purchasing a Lustre Master Station in autumn 2006. Dreamwalks, Solutions for Moving Pictures, is responsible for consulting, sales and implementation, while Patric Breuer’s team will also provide training and support.

The Geyer Berlin team, led by Head of Digital Lab and Digital Postproduction Ivar Beer, had already used its Lustre Master Station for film grading and look development on productions including Egoli Tossell’s Frühstück mit einer Unbekannten. “With Lustre HD, we have now extended our high-quality real-time grading capabilities to the demanding television-film segment,” Beer said.

Television broadcasters were moving rapidly from standard definition to high-definition formats. Many colour and lighting systems could not accommodate that transition and reached their limits in modern data-centred workflows. Geyer Berlin selected the HD version of Lustre for its configurability and support for demanding HD workflows.

Ease of operation was another factor in the decision. The system allows cinematographers to make postproduction adjustments that previously had to be finalised during acquisition. Looks, lighting and lighting effects can be created or refined later, reducing the time and cost involved.
