Sonnet Technologies announced a new storage system at IBC specifically for film and video editing and for broadcast tasks. Sonnet Fusion R8OORAID is a SATA disk-array storage system with eight drives.

Each Fusion R800RAID system has a PCI Express RAID host adapter that supports RAID 0, 1, 4 (DVRAID), 5, 10 and 50 as well as JBOD configurations. The system is housed in a 2U rackmount enclosure containing hot-swappable drive modules with SATA drives.

The Fusion RAID systems work with Mac OS X, Windows XP and Vista as well as Linux. They are compatible with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox, and Bluefish 444 and work with the leading video-editing systems such as Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.

The systems will be available from October. Prices depend on the distributors in Europe. In the USA, they start at around 5,400 US dollars for the 4 TB system.
