Mackevision received gold and silver OttoCar awards at the 2007 AutoVision automotive film and multimedia festival.
Its Mercedes-Benz CL-Class production won gold in Product Presentation Films, while Bionic Car received silver in Informational Films.
The three-minute CL-Class film combined live-action driving footage with a CAD-derived virtual vehicle. Only one physical car was available for the Norway shoot, so Mackevision created a second colour variant in 3D and integrated it into the plates.
Urban environments, interior shots and several landscape elements were generated or rebuilt digitally. Post-production added skies, mountains, valleys, bridges, tunnels and buildings to the photographed material.
Bionic Car was produced entirely in 3D and visualised a Mercedes-Benz concept inspired by the boxfish.
A separate Dodge Journey film replaced the production vehicle with a fully animated model. Performers were filmed against blue screen or on location, then combined with the CGI car, allowing later changes to models, paint, equipment, backgrounds and occupants while protecting the unreleased design.
