Straightforward BIM with Allplan

Nemetschek presents Allplan BIM 2008, a component-oriented 3D planning application for Building Information Modeling. Architects and planners can choose their working method without switching applications.

Each user can work with the new version in a way that suits their workflow, the type of project, or the current service phase. Allplan BIM 2008 covers every level of use in a modern CAD system. From 2D drawing and 3D planning through to component-oriented building modeling with quantity and cost calculation, users work in a single system. This combines the advantages of 2D and 3D. Allplan’s openness gives even beginners quick access to the application.

More Planning Quality Through BIM

Nemetschek placed a major development focus on simplifying the creation of virtual building models. This model forms the basis of the highly integrated overall process known as Building Information Modeling (BIM). Information about a building, including floor plans, views, sections, lists, quantities, and costs, is made centrally available to everyone involved in planning. Mirroring a building’s topological structure of levels and floors, construction projects in Allplan BIM 2008 can be organized for practical work using the new building structure. Sections, views, and lists are derived directly, removing the need for laborious manual creation. Combined with the new level manager, users can prepare large projects or entire properties for 3D planning in a very short time.

Stephan Prietzel, an architect in Munich and one of more than one hundred beta testers, confirms: “Since I process almost all projects entirely in 3D, I am particularly pleased with the intelligently designed building structure and the level manager.”

Cost-Conscious Planning with Design2Cost

Efficient Building Information Modeling requires quantities and costs to be calculated precisely and in accordance with VOB requirements. Nemetschek has therefore expanded the TÜV-certified Design2Cost cost-planning method in the new version. Architects and planners receive a well-founded specification of services, including a quantity framework for cost calculation and tendering. Geometric or qualitative changes are taken into account immediately and incorporated into the building model.

Design2Cost is an integrated solution comprising Allplan BIM Architecture, Allplan BCM (Building Cost Management), and Allplan IBD (Intelligent Building Data). Allplan BCM is an evolution of the Allright AVA software that has been integrated into the Allplan product family to support the BIM approach more fully. A large selection of predefined components is available so users can begin 3D planning immediately. The new version provides broader support for solid construction, industrial construction, and the cost calculation of building-services elements. Assistants also make the workflow more ergonomic: they follow a clearly structured palette concept that can be accessed quickly using tabs.

Data Exchange Across the Entire Process Chain

The new version also supports teamwork within an office and beyond. Different planners can work on a project simultaneously in a project space without having to “reserve” or “check out” building components. Typical office styles, such as hatching, can be used either for a specific project or throughout the office. Simple structures also provide clear organization of building components that still need work and those already completed. Access rights determine who may make changes to a project.
