Nemetschek: New CAD software for integrated 3D planning

The new 3D planning software for Building Information Modeling, Allplan BIM 2008, is the focus of Nemetschek’s trade-fair appearance at DEUBAU 2008 in Essen. It will show how architects and planners can switch between a 2D, 3D or component-oriented way of working in a single system.

Also new is the improved interoperability, which enables the smooth exchange of

project documents with clients and planning partners. Visitors can gain an insight into the new software generation in Hall 9, booth 318.

Allplan BIM 2008 covers all levels of use of a modern CAD. From simple 2D drawing through 3D planning to component-oriented building modeling with quantity and cost determination, the user works in a single system.

The new version makes virtual building modeling easier and is thus the ideal basis for an integrated 3D planning process (BIM). Floor plans, views, sections, lists, quantities or costs relating to a building are made centrally available to all project participants. Users can structure construction projects analogously to the topological structure of a building from levels and floors. In this way, extensive projects or entire properties can be prepared for 3D planning.

For efficient BIM, it also remains indispensable to determine quantities and costs precisely and in accordance with VOB. Nemetschek has therefore further expanded the TÜV-certified Design2Cost cost-planning method. Behind Design2Cost is an integrated solution consisting of Allplan BIM Architecture, Allplan BCM (Building Cost Management) and Allplan IBD (IntelligentBuildingData). Architects and planners receive a sound specification of services including a quantity framework for cost calculation and tendering.

To be able to start 3D planning immediately, a large selection of predefined components with the associated services and prices is available. For example, Allplan IBD Industrial Construction contains special building elements such as post-and-beam façades, cassette and insulated walls, trapezoidal sheet-metal roofs, rooflights/domes, precast reinforced-concrete components, aerated-concrete wall panels, cavity/raised flooring as well as pecial subjects such as cold rooms. Users can carry out variant comparisons down to item level, because each component already includes the items from different trades. Clients’ change requests, such as swapping the covering for cavity floors from, for example, tiles to natural stone, are immediately taken into account in Allplan BIM 2008 and automatically flow into the bill of quantities and services as well as the cost overview. This also applies to geometric or qualitative changes.

Allplan BIM 2008 also facilitates data exchange with other process participants, for example via the certified IFC 2×3 interface or the standard PDF format. Together with Adobe, Nemetschek has expanded common PDF functionality in the new version and integrated the original Adobe PDF Libraries. Both 2D plans and 3D models can not only be generated directly with layer structures, but also reimported. This brings simple construction-coordination processes within reach that include all participants without technical complications and enable secure approval procedures. The laborious coordination of office standards becomes superfluous. In addition, unauthorized access to drawings and models can be prevented and confidential data protected against misuse.
