Since the first joint project „Erkan und Stefan“, Munich-based Scanline handled the digital effects on the productions of producer, director and actor Michael „Bully“ Herbig and his production company herbX. So it was only natural that Bully Herbig also turned to Scanline for his first 3D animated film. For the Munich company, it was also a premiere, because until then the company had specialized in visual effects and had made a name for itself particularly with the simulation of fire and water.
With „Lissi und der wilde Kaiser“, by contrast, it was a complete production from planning and previsualization through modeling and animation to compositing and color correction. Bully Herbig not only produced the film with his company herbX, but also wrote the screenplay, directed and himself voiced three of the performers in the film.
