Tom (Robert Stadlober) and Malte (Axel Schreiber) are friends – they make music together, DJ in Berlin clubs, dream of a joint career, party until they drop, wait tables for a catering service and yet are completely different: Tom struggles with himself, his life and the future. Because there is really only one great passion for him: music. But his attempts to secure a place at a respected music college have so far only been met with rejections. When one day Mavie (Anna Brüggemann), Mitsch’s “little” sister from Munich, moves into the Berlin shared flat, the great emotional roller coaster begins for Tom.
The daredevil Malte, on the other hand, seems to have a monopoly on happiness: Everything he touches succeeds. He immediately gets a place at music college, a record label signs him and Mavie also seems to succumb to his charm, although she is actually interested in Tom. Tom sees no other way out than to flee, out of the city, into another life.
His friends try to stop him, but they too know: Tom has to make this decision himself if he does not want to stand in the way of his happiness forever. Now it will become clear whether all stories are love stories in the end. And whether it is important at all how they end…
BERLIN BY THE SEA is produced by Alinfilmproduktion in cooperation with Red Cloud Filmproduction, the producers are Iris Sommerlatte and Ali Saghri, Executive Producer is Chris Ribbe. Wolfgang Eißler wrote the script and directed. The film is funded by Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg. The film opens throughout Germany on January 10, 2008, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures Germany.
