On the World Wide Web, people buy, play, laugh, marry and unfortunately also cheat. With the help of Web 2.0 technologies, the WWW is increasingly being designed by its users themselves. Thus, of more than one billion Internet users, around 18 million people are already moving in virtual worlds of the caliber of Second Life or World of Warcraft. Compared with the “first life”, residents of such virtual worlds create their social and commercial rules anew. Top earners are already generating millions in the process.
What new possibilities for interaction and role-playing are there? How do users cope with the virtual world and how can they protect themselves from violations of privacy and from fraud? What law is to apply and what interactions will arise between the virtual and real worlds?
