HP expands employee headcount in Germany

Computer group Hewlett-Packard (HP) is benefiting from the good mood in the IT industry in Germany. In the past fiscal year 2006/07 (31.10.), the Böblingen company increased its revenue by ten percent to 6.5 billion euros. HP Germany head Uli Holdenried said this on Wednesday in Stuttgart. The private customer business with desktops and notebooks made a decisive contribution to the development.

The manager traditionally provided no information on profit. The German national company had, however, made a «significant contribution» to the group’s result. Profit had been within the range of expectations. The number of employees in Germany increased by 300 to 8500 compared with the previous year.

For the current fiscal year, the computer group expects strong demand for mobile products to continue. «We will grow strongly in the private customer business», said the Chairman of the Management Board of Hewlett-Packard GmbH. More than 50 percent of total revenue in the PC business is made in Germany. Germany is therefore one of the growth countries in this business field.

For the fiscal year 2007/08, Holdenried set the goal of growing more than the market. In addition, despite the noticeable shortage of skilled workers in the IT industry, HP wants to further increase the number of employees in Germany. The manager did not provide a more detailed forecast of business development for the coming months.
