Korean software company INUS Technology, Inc. has released 64-bit versions of its 3D scanning software products Rapidform XOS (scan-data processing) and XOR (redesign). The professional 64-bit architecture, when used with suitable Windows operating systems, permits the processing of considerably larger data volumes than before. Otherwise, functionality remains the same as in the 32-bit versions. Rapidform was to exhibit at the Euromold trade fair in Frankfurt from December 5 to 8 at stand F.11 in Hall 8.

At operating-system level, 32-bit applications are limited to 2 GB of RAM, equating to about 30 million data points. Rapidform XOS 64 and XOR 64’s 64-bit architecture can use up to 128 GB of RAM. “This offers Rapidform users the convenience of processing extremely large 3D scanner files,” said Calvin J. Hur, Vice President of Marketing at INUS Technology.

Hur cited automotive styling as an example of the benefits of 64-bit processing. “There can be a hundred or more scans to capture all the subtle details of a clay car-body model. With XOS 64 and XOR 64, all these scans can be processed in a single pass. If our customers used 32-bit versions, they would probably process only one third of the scans at a time in order not to exceed the 2 GB limit.”

The same applies wherever scanned real-world data must be transferred into CAD systems—whether for aircraft construction, architecture, landscape planning or the capture of cultural assets.

Rapidform XOS 64 and XOR 64 offer point-cloud processing, create watertight polygon meshes and generate highest-quality NURBS surfaces. XOR 64 can also create editable parametric solid models for direct further processing in leading CAD systems. The “liveTransfer” tool integrated in the software also enables the editing history created in Rapidform to be transferred to the relevant CAD program. This is intended for quality inspection.

Rapidform XOS 64, XOR 64 and XOV 64 require a computer with a 64-bit processor and either Windows XP x64 or Windows Vista x64.
