Today, computer and video games occupy an outstanding position among media offerings and consequently are increasingly coming into scientific focus. With the International Computer Game Conference Cologne, Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the company Electronic Arts have created a platform that enables representatives of a wide variety of disciplines to exchange experiences. The event entitled “Clash of Realities” will take place in Cologne for the second time from March 5 to 7, 2008. Participants expected include not only researchers from all over the world, but also politicians, journalists, association representatives, educators and interested laypeople.

The expanded circle of participants shows the aim of the event: It is intended to demonstrate the wealth of facets of the research subject of interactive entertainment

and stimulate discussions that go beyond one-sided media effect relationships and attributions. The three event days make it possible to give the subject of computer and video games appropriate space.

The speakers in 2008 include important international researchers, such as game theorist Jesper Juul from the renowned

Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, and American linguist and author James Paul Gee, who published the book “What Video Games Have To Teach Us About Learning And Literacy” in 2004.

Participation in Clash of Realities is free of charge.
