According to figures from market researchers at comScore (mymetrix.comscore.com), in August of this year alone 129,286,000 visitors visited Gameforge’s games pages and spent a combined total of around 1.7 billion minutes there. In an international comparison with 100 other gaming portal operators, the Karlsruhe company thus ranks 6th behind providers such as EA Online and Yahoo! Games.
When Klaas Kersting and Alexander Rösner launched the Gameforge games workshop in December 2003, online games led little more than a niche existence. Wrongly, the two founders thought, and since then they have proven day after day how much potential there is in this industry.
“With the time users put into our games, the Empire State Building could be rebuilt three and a half times every month”, CEO Klaas Kersting illustrates the dimensions. “Our company was profitable from the first day. Since then, we have grown by more than 350 percent per year. We now employ almost 100 people and look upon a loyal community of players extending across 23 language areas in 30 countries. However, the success does not really surprise us, because we have always believed in the online revolution. The future belongs to this market segment.”
