August-Wilhelm Scheer, President of industry association Bitkom, said this in Berlin on Wednesday. Computers, software and IT services were in greatest demand.
According to an association survey, 78 percent of companies expect rising sales, 16 percent see stable business development and 6 percent expect declining sales. Year-end business in 2007, meanwhile, is subdued.
Only a quarter of providers of high-tech products and services expect better Christmas business, it said. 70 percent expect sales at the previous year’s level. «Last year, many consumers brought forward larger purchases because of the VAT increase that was pending at the time,» Scheer said. That is now making itself felt.
