Volker Herres, NDR Director of Television Programming: “We broadcast a typically northern German programme. That is more than just a reliably regional look and feel. Our programme is as informative and useful as it is entertaining and stimulating. NDR Television further sharpened its own character, its typical profile, in 2007. It offers a broad range of interesting programmes. Classic and proven programme offerings were modernized. And this year we launched a wealth of innovations, such as our ombudsman format “Kühn & Kollegen”, “Moin, Heike”, “Inas Nacht”, “Polettos Kochschule” or the new sports programmes “Liga 1” and “Liga 3″. The figures prove it: The modernization of the programme is being accepted by our viewers – not only in the north, but throughout Germany.”
NDR Television was also successful in the north in 2007: In its broadcasting area of Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, NDR Television reached an average of 3.98 million people every day (market share 7.7 percent), thus remaining the second most successful third channel in its own broadcasting area after MDR.
Among the most successful programmes in 2007 were the state programmes and the regional magazine "DAS!". "Menschen und Schlagzeilen" with Susanne Stichler became further established. An average of 376,000 viewers tuned in to the talk programme on Wednesdays at 9.00 p.m. Successful programmes such as the "NDR Quizshow", "Expeditionen ins Tierreich", "Sportclub", "Kulturjournal" and the "Aktuelle Schaubude", which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007, also gained acceptance.
NDR Television's live reporting also scored with viewers in 2007. 1.27 million people in the north watched the Aktuelle Schaubude special on the christening of the cruise ship AIDAdiva. On NDR aktuell, most viewers were once again interested in the (bad) weather in the north. On January 18, 1.09 million people followed the reports on the hurricane over northern Germany. NDR Television's sports programmes were successful not only in the broadcasting area. An average of 6.28 million people nationwide tuned in to the live broadcasts of the football matches HSV - Honved Budapest and Hannover 96 - Real Madrid.
ARD's seven third channels once again enjoyed great popularity in 2007. They achieved a combined average market share of 13.4 percent and shared the top position with Das Erste (also 13.4 percent) - ahead of ZDF (12.9 percent) and RTL (12.5 percent).
