Revenue also shot up by 84.7 percent to 1.32 trillion yen (just under 8.7 billion euros), thanks in part to strong sales of the portable Nintendo DS. Operating profit also swelled by 135.1 percent to 394 billion yen. Since sales began 13 months ago, the Wii console has already sold more than 20 million units. Nintendo has sold around 65 million units of the portable DS console since its launch in December 2004.
The robust sales figures for the two successful products and the strengthening of the yen prompted Nintendo to raise its profit forecast for the full year. The group now expects operating profit of 460 (previously 420) billion yen. This corresponds to growth of 103.5 percent over the previous financial year. Revenue is now expected to be 1.63 trillion rather than 1.55 trillion yen, an increase of 57.8 percent compared with the previous year.
