Adobe appointed Kevin Lynch as chief technology officer. He would direct development of the company’s core technologies across business units while continuing to advance Adobe’s platform for designers and developers, including Flash Player, Flex and AIR.

“Kevin has made an enormous contribution to expanding our technology vision during his time at Adobe,” said president and CEO Shantanu Narayen. He cited Lynch’s experience with rich internet applications and cross-business, cross-device software.

At Adobe since 2005

Lynch joined Adobe through its 2005 acquisition of Macromedia. As senior vice president and chief software architect, he led the Platform Business Unit responsible for technologies used to create and deliver applications and content across computers and mobile devices. His responsibilities also included Adobe’s developer program and customer and partner participation through Adobe Labs and advisory groups.

Flash Player development

At Macromedia, Lynch held roles including chief software architect and president of products. He was involved in the development of Dreamweaver and in expanding Flash Player from an animation player into a rich-internet and dynamic-media runtime. Earlier, he worked at start-ups including General Magic and Frame Technology.

Lynch held three patents, with additional applications pending, and participated in Adobe’s standards work with organizations including W3C, ECMA and ISO. He studied interactive computer graphics at the University of Illinois, working with artists and engineers in its Electronic Visualization Laboratory.
