Act-3D Releases Quest3D 4.0

Quest3D 4.0 adds real-time COLLADA support, Newton Game Dynamics, expanded environment simulation, 3D GUI tools and object-oriented development.

Quest3D 4.0 adds technology for architecture visualization, product and design presentations, games and training simulations.

“This is one of the biggest steps in Quest3D’s history,” said Act-3D chief technology officer Remco Jacobs. He said the company wanted real-time 3D developers to have the capabilities expected from an advanced software-development tool for large projects.

The main change concerns project structure. Quest3D 4.0 lets developers divide complex projects into reusable modules and standardize them for future work, with improved project handling.

The release can import COLLADA models at runtime. Newton Game Dynamics extends the software’s physics functions, while an environment system creates skies, clouds, moons, sunlight, lightning and water. Entering a location and time produces corresponding sun and moon positions. New GUI components support rapid creation of sliders, buttons and other interface elements, and Ogg audio is now supported.

Version 4.0 is available free to customers who purchased version 3 after July 2007. New customers can obtain it through the Quest3D web store or resellers listed at http://www.quest3d.com.

The press release and website had not yet disclosed pricing.
