Ubisoft and EuropaCorp Expand Arthur Games

Ubisoft and EuropaCorp have signed a worldwide licensing agreement for games based on the two forthcoming Arthur and the Minimoys sequels.

Ubisoft and EuropaCorp announced today that they have concluded an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement covering the development, publication, and distribution of video games based on the sequels to EuropaCorp’s Arthur and the Minimoys. The games will be released worldwide to coincide with the theatrical launches of the next two films: Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard at Christmas 2009 and Arthur and the Two Worlds War at Christmas 2010.

Like Arthur and the Minimoys, the planned films will combine computer-animated and live-action sequences. The first installment, released in German cinemas in January 2007, appeared in 47 countries and generated worldwide revenue of $120 million from 17 million admissions.

“Ubisoft’s award-winning teams stand for quality and innovation and have a long record of success with licensed games,” says Luc Besson of EuropaCorp. “We are delighted about the future collaboration with this creative team. Working closely with Ubisoft’s developers will allow us to create a game experience worthy of the Arthur and the Minimoys sequels.”

“Ubisoft is thrilled to work with a universe as large and imaginative as only a creative talent such as Luc Besson can devise,” says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “This collaboration demonstrates once again how Ubisoft can capture major emotional moments from the film industry in an interactive game. The games for Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard and Arthur and the Two Worlds War will let players experience every action sequence, dramatic moment, and emotion at close range through possibilities unique to video games.”
