The web presentation for the 7,715 g book is an interactive counterpart to the physical volume. A few clicks lead into cinematic sound, staging and imagery, previewing the illustrated atlas printed with a special gold colour. Hamburg creative agency marke23 conceived and implemented the site.
Users enter individual chapters of the Bible atlas interactively, including Noah’s Ark, Exodus and episodes from the life of Jesus. Biblical locations can be explored online. An introduction using lighting effects and simulated camera movement leads to a map where users choose the narrative path to follow. A 360-degree view allows the book to be turned and examined from every side.
The project is intended to present the brand values of National Geographic Germany and encourage readers and online users to explore.
“With biblica.de, marke23 translated the richness of the National Geographic illustrated volume to the internet at a high technical level,” says Dr Martin Bethke, head of additional products at National Geographic Germany, who accepted the award in Leipzig. “We are particularly pleased by this recognition and by customers’ positive reactions as they engage with our brand and product world through the site.”
