Media and Games Industries in Dialogue

Munich Gaming 2008 takes place from 5 to 8 April 2008.

Munich Gaming, a four-day event covering gaming, edutainment and entertainment, will take place in Munich for the first time from 5 to 8 April 2008.

The event is divided into a public programme (5/6 April), comprising presentations, discussion panels and an exhibition, and a two-day industry conference (7/8 April) with talks, panel discussions and workshops. The industry conference is organised by Medientage München GmbH.

The aim is to bring together everyone involved in electronic games at a single event: interested members of the public, parents, representatives of educational institutions, gaming enthusiasts, politicians and representatives of the games industry, as well as employees of traditional media companies, for whom gaming offers enormous potential.

The public programme, designed for interested members of the public, takes place on Praterinsel and is free to attend. At the heart of this part of the event is a show stage where the most popular electronic games of the moment will be presented in detail and discussed critically. These presentations are aimed at parents, educators and anyone interested in games. They will receive an overview of the different consoles and learn about the distinctive features of action, sports, music and racing games, as well as educational and strategy games and simulations. They will learn what is meant by casual games, online games, MMOGs, serious games and e-sports. In the exhibition surrounding the show stage, companies, institutions and associations will provide information about trends and projects in the gaming sector. Munich Mayor Christian Ude is patron of the public programme.

The two-day industry conference for decision-makers in the computer and video game industry and representatives of traditional media companies will give participants an overview of current developments and insight into discussions among representatives from business, politics, the media and society. The conference is intended to provide a platform that promotes dialogue between the games industry, politicians and public institutions.

The paid industry conference takes place at the [m]athäser Filmpalast in Munich.
