The Walt Disney Studios has presented in New York the animated films from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios scheduled for release through 2012. The list of new animated films includes six new films from Pixar Animation Studios and four new films from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
This year’s releases include “WALL•E” (Pixar) by Oscar winner Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo”), opening on June 27 (German release: 02.10.08), and “Bolt” (Disney), the directorial debut of Chris Williams and Byron Howard, which will arrive in American cinemas on November 26 (German release: 22.01.09). Starting with “Bolt”, all future Disney and Pixar animated films will also be released in Disney Digital 3-D. In addition, retrofitted 3-D versions of “Toy Story” (2009) and “Toy Story 2″ (2010) are to be released.

In summer 2009, American cinemas will first see “Up”, Pixar’s first 3-D film, directed by Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.”) and co-director Bob Peterson. At Christmas, “The Princess and the Frog”, a traditionally animated fairy tale directed by Disney veterans John Musker and Ron Clements (“The Little Mermaid”, “Aladdin”, “Hercules”), will arrive in American cinemas.
2010 brings back “Toy Story” characters Buzz and Woody when “Toy Story 3″ opens in Disney Digital 3-D in the summer. Lee Unkrich (“Finding Nemo,” “Monsters, Inc.”) takes over as director. Planned for the Christmas season is “Rapunzel”, a traditionally animated fairy tale that also marks the directorial debut of animation legend Glen Keane and his directing partner Dean Wellins.

Summer 2011 will see the release of “newt”, the first film directed by multiple Oscar winner and sound designer Gary Rydstrom. The first Pixar fairy tale is on the programme for Christmas: “The Bear and the Bow”. Brenda Chapman (“The Prince of Egypt”) directed it. There is also news about “Cars”: in 2012, Lightning McQueen, Hook the tow truck and new characters will come to the screen in Pixar’s “Cars 2”. The director is Brad Lewis, producer of “Ratatouille”. At Christmas 2012, Walt Disney Animation Studios will bring “King of the Elves”, an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s short story directed by Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker (“Brother Bear”), to cinemas.
Dick Cook, Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, and John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, hosted the presentation. “We are ready to redefine the boundaries of 3-D and computer technology in our quest to tell stories in the best possible way,” Lasseter explained. “At the same time, we are returning to our beginnings and the characters we remember best – suspense-filled animated stories in believable settings.”
