Rombus: Notebook and Liquid-Cooled Workstation for CAD/CAM

The manufacturer presents the Septima 73802 for CAD/CAM and the Quinta 741101 CAD/CAM workstation with an integrated liquid-cooling system.

Rombus, a leading supplier of IT, business, consumer and gaming products, is introducing the Septima 73802 notebook for mobile CAD/CAM applications. It features the Intel PM965/ICH8M chipset. Rombus is also presenting what it describes as the world’s first liquid-cooled workstation. According to the manufacturer, the Rombus Quinta 741101 greatly reduces noise levels and provides a quiet working environment.

Whether for mobile use with the Septima 73802 notebook or as a Quinta 741101 workstation, Rombus offers engineers, architects, radiologists, scientists and animation studios a suitable computer for CAD/CAM and other professional graphics applications.

The Septima 73802 Notebook

The Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 runs at 2.40 GHz, enables fast work with compute-intensive programs and offers the advantages of the latest chip generation through the high-performance Intel PM965/ICH8M chipset. The current Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M graphics card also supports professional graphics applications, while the generous 17-inch active-matrix glare TFT screen, with a maximum resolution of 1,920 × 1,200 pixels, provides a brilliant image.

The system includes 2 × 2,048 MB of DDR2 RAM and a 200 GB SATA hard drive running at 7,200 rpm. A FireWire interface, DVD burner and preinstalled Windows XP Professional operating system round out the Septima 73802, making it a mobile companion for CAD/CAM and other professional graphics applications.

Quinta 741101 Workstation with Business Liquid Cooling

At this year’s CeBIT, Rombus presented what it describes as the world’s first mass-produced liquid-cooled CAD/CAM workstation. Quiet operation and extended component life are the primary goals.

With integrated business liquid cooling, the Rombus Quinta 741101 is intended to end the era of high noise levels and hearing-protection headphones at CAD/CAM workstations and usher in a pleasantly quiet environment for concentrated work. The workstation features an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor at 2.40 GHz with a Socket 775 CPU, 2,048 MB of DDR2 RAM and two 320 GB SATA II hard drives. An Nvidia Quadro FX 1500 graphics card with 256 MB of graphics memory provides sharp images. An 80 Plus-certified Seasonic 650-watt power supply powers the high-performance system.

Liquid Cooling at the Highest Level

XIREX coolers are designed with nickel-plated connectors soldered to the cooling body. This distinctive process permits a secure connection to the cooling body using threaded fittings and helps prevent leaks in this sensitive area. All coolers are produced in Germany and undergo a certified pressure test before use.

The Clear Advantage of Liquid Cooling

Compared with conventional fan-based solutions, liquid-cooling systems offer important advantages: they are more powerful, nearly silent, and their cooling capacity can be increased further by adding fans to the heat exchanger. More efficient cooling of individual components such as the processor, graphics card and chipset also makes the entire computer more stable. Heat is removed precisely where it is generated, lowering processor temperatures and extending component life. The cooling capacity of a liquid-cooling system is said to be one thousand times greater than conventional air cooling. Operational reliability is also extremely high, no maintenance is required, and the infrastructure is therefore very cost-effective. Alongside a quiet working environment, these advantages make liquid cooling attractive to demanding CAD/CAM users.
