The book clearly presents techniques for creating HDRIs and pseudo-HDRIs, including classic exposure blending and an HDR workflow using tone mapping. It covers shooting tips, processing with different HDR tools and Photoshop post-production.

A further section addresses HDR panoramas, considering whether to first create conventional panoramas and combine them into an HDRI, or to process individual images through the HDR workflow before stitching them into a larger image.

Seventeen step-by-step workshops, accounting for around one third of the book, cover applications including night photography, architectural photography and more experimental or surreal subjects. The book is oriented toward Photomatix and Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements, though users of other programs can adapt its concepts and approaches.

The reviewer recommends the book to HDR beginners and interested photographers; experienced users can also find useful workflow-optimization advice.
