The ZDFonline production “Die Gustloff in 3-D” has been nominated for the prestigious international TV festival in Banff, Canada. The multimedia animation accompanying the two-part TV film “Die Gustloff” is one of four productions nominated in the “Interactive Programme Support” category. The Banff Festival awards will be presented on June 9, 2008.
At the centre of the ZDFonline animation is the computer-generated 3-D model of the “Gustloff”, which was produced specifically for the television film and adapted for online use. The offering was very well received by users. On the website, viewers can look at the ship model from every angle and virtually go on board. There, against the backdrop of the original film sets, they can see selected scenes from the film. Each scene is accompanied by commentary from a member of the film crew and a contemporary witness. In this way, the multimedia offering bridges fiction and history. Annette Koch and Isa Ostertag were responsible for the idea and concept; Annette Koch was responsible for editorial work.
