Electronic Arts subsidiary Pandemic Studios was developing Lord of the Rings: Conquest for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Nintendo DS, with worldwide release planned for autumn 2008.
The team behind Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II was creating the title with New Line Cinema. The game is set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth as depicted in Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning films.
In addition to fighting for the heroic forces of good, players would for the first time in a Lord of the Rings action game be able to lead Sauron’s legions and conquer Middle-earth, with creatures including cave trolls, oliphaunts, the Balrog and Sauron. Pandemic Studios in Los Angeles was also working on Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and Saboteur.
