Hands on HD, taking place in Hanover from 21 to 27 July 2008, provides knowledge about the High Definition film and television format.
High Definition production has become established in Germany and is replacing Standard Definition. HD offers impressive detail, contrast and color reproduction. To exploit these benefits, professionals must learn to use new camera systems and understand the changed production process. Extensive practical testing helps both to develop a production-friendly working environment and to avoid preconceptions and operating errors, but is rarely offered.
Hands on HD, a training event unique in Europe, provides this useful connection between practice and theory. Trained by independent instructors, professionals in camera, postproduction and audio learn to work with different systems and workflows.
For the sixth time, the HD industry will meet at the Hanover Expo grounds from 21 to 27 July 2008. Organized by Band Pro Munich GmbH and nordmedia – The Media Company of Lower Saxony and Bremen, and supported by sponsors, Hands on HD has developed into the largest HD event. Participants receive the rare opportunity to become familiar with every camera system available on the market. Thanks to numerous sponsors, equipment worth more than EUR 10 million can be made available.
Internationally recognized experts including Louis-Philippe Capelle, Hendrik Vogt, Philippe Ros, John O’Quigley, Professor Ulrich Plank, Michael Radeck and Chris Price will teach in equipment-specific classes. Alongside seminars using familiar camera systems such as Sony HDCAM, Panasonic and ARRI D-20, new models including XDCAM 4:2:2, RED ONE, SI-2K, Sony F23/F35 and Ikegami systems will make their HD-workshop debut. New this year are a stereoscopic 3D camera class and a crossover class. Postproduction workshops will use every Avid HD system, Final Cut, Canopus, Adobe, Quantel iQ 4K and 3D animation and VFX equipment including Maya, Flame and DS Nitris. The audio class is supported by Sennheiser and Ambient Recording.
