GC – Games Convention Leipzig: Even More International in 2008

Business Area grows by 25 percent. Trade-show chief Marzin says GC is not moving.

GC – Games Convention, Europe’s leading trade show for interactive entertainment, edutainment, infotainment and hardware, is announcing new superlatives for its Leipzig event from 21 to 24 August 2008. It will be more international than ever, and the GC Business Center is heading toward a participation record.

“We are currently receiving a great many registrations from international publishers and developers,” says Wolfgang Marzin, Chairman of the Management Board of Leipziger Messe. Exhibitors currently come from 23 countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Russia. “The growing international participation underscores Germany’s status as Europe’s most important trade-show location for computer and video games,” Marzin says.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology recently confirmed GC – Games Convention’s classification as a leading international trade show, which is associated with support at the national political level. More than 500 exhibitors are expected in total, including almost every industry market leader and numerous young, creative companies.

In the GC Business Center, the separate exhibition area for industry and commerce, international providers have booked almost half of the space. In response to high demand, Leipziger Messe has expanded the Business Center once again—by one quarter compared with 2007, to 40,000 square meters. The entire Congress Center Leipzig, all of Hall 1 and half of Hall 2 are consequently available for business-to-business activities.

Trade visitors to GC – Games Convention will also travel to Leipzig from across Europe and beyond. The booking list already includes 41 countries, led by Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, followed by Russia and the United States.

250 Premieres and Spectacular Events

The latest games-industry trends and highlights once again await trade visitors and fans in Leipzig. More than 500 exhibitors will present themselves across an area equivalent to 16 football pitches, or 115,000 square meters. Console manufacturers and publishers will bring around 250 world, European and German premieres. Numerous events include a concert in the Video Games Live series. The cult spectacle will visit Germany for the first time after its American organizers celebrated successes in the United Kingdom and the United States. Compared with GC concerts in Leipzig during previous years, visitors can expect even more showmanship, action and interactivity. GC – Games Convention Is Not Moving

Responding to individual media reports in recent months that GC – Games Convention would change location in 2009, Leipziger Messe chief Wolfgang Marzin states clearly: “GC – Games Convention is not moving.” Marzin emphasizes that Games Convention will continue to serve the national and international industry. As organizer of GC – Games Convention, Leipziger Messe will continue to pursue its international strategy. The strength of the globally recognized and positively perceived GC – Games Convention brand must be used to expand the global concept further. Games Convention Asia, held annually in Singapore since 2007, is an important building block in this context, Marzin says.
