10 Sekunden—a brief moment is enough to derail the lives of several people.
After an air disaster, an air traffic controller is tormented by guilt: he holds himself responsible for the deaths of 83 people. His wife Franziska (Marie Bäumer) seeks refuge from this confinement in an affair. Police officer Harald (Sebastian Blomberg), who was deployed at the scene of the accident, is repeatedly haunted by his memories. Erik (Filip Peeters) lost his wife and child in the crash, and cannot overcome his grief even when he meets the young and vivacious Daniela (Hannah Herzsprung). As they all try to regain control of their lives, they fail to notice that they are already heading towards the next catastrophe.
Inspired by true events—the collision of two aircraft over Lake Constance in 2002—“10 Sekunden” separates itself from the actual events to tell the story of the consequences of such a tragedy. From different perspectives and across different time periods, the sensitive drama attempts to explore how, and whether, life afterward is possible.
10 SEKUNDEN was filmed in and around Leipzig and is a moneypenny production co-produced with ZDF and ARTE, with funding from Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the German Federal Film Fund.
