FiberFX is a standalone polygon modeler for realistic hair, fur, and feathers. It gives artists tools for shaping individual fibers with three-dimensional shadows and accounts for reflections and refraction. LightWave v9.5’s rendering quality and speed have been revised, as have IK and the animation system, which now offer improved control in character animation. Scenes and objects can also now be imported and exported in FBX and Collada formats.
LightWave v9.5 is available for Windows; the final Mac OS X version is still to follow. NewTek lists the full version at around US$900 and the update at around US$400. The manufacturer has also made a free trial version available for download.
