As German Films announced at midday today, the independent expert jury chaired by Alfred Hürmer selected the Constantin Film production, produced by Bernd Eichinger. “The outstanding acting and exceptional cinematic treatment of the story offer a view of the early 1970s in the Federal Republic of Germany without glorifying the perpetrators,” the jury explained.
FFF Managing Director Dr Klaus Schaefer said: “The Baader Meinhof Complex is one of the most important films supported by the FFF over the past year. I am particularly pleased that this production is now entering the contest for audiences with the momentum of this preliminary Oscar decision. We wish Constantin Film and everyone involved the very best!”
The Baader Meinhof Complex opens in German cinemas on September 25, 2008. FilmFernsehFonds Bayern supported the star-studded feature with €1.4 million in production funding and €225,000 in distribution funding.
