Digital Creation Days Workshop Programme Now Online

The second digital creation days will show what is currently possible in digital visualisation at the Karlsruhe Congress Centre from 12 to 13 November 2008. Leading figures from film, television, advertising, architecture and industry will present current trends in the accompanying exhibition and comprehensive workshop programme on both days.

The provisional workshop programme is now online. Under the motto “Come and Enjoy 3D”, the first trade-fair and seminar day is devoted in detail to 3D visualisation. It covers general questions as well as specially tailored talks and seminars for beginners and professionals. On the second day, everything revolves around visualisation. The workshop and presentation programme focuses more strongly on product, architectural and industrial visualisation.

More 3D Topics on the Programme

Following the strong response last year, the organisers are expanding the programme devoted to 3D visualisation. Haggi Flöser-Krey, for example, will give two presentations in this field. He says of 3D technology:

“3D technology is closely linked to the development of computer hardware. The faster computers become, the more possibilities are available. It is now possible, for example, to calculate the movement of liquids and gases, something that previously required supercomputers. These tools are therefore also available as creative elements. New developments can likewise automate more and more processes that were previously tedious manual work. This frees up energy for design, leading to richer and better results.”

At the digital creation days, Flöser-Krey will discuss “Rendering Techniques in mental ray and RenderMan” and give an “Introduction to Shader Programming and Python Scripting for Maya”.

Flöser-Krey is a freelancer and specialist in production pipelines, visual effects and rendering. According to him, his work on Sven Väth’s “Beauty and the Beast” contributed to the “first proper German animated music video”, and he has also worked on various commercials and effects shots.

He was involved at Ambient Entertainment and on the films “Back to Gaya”, “Urmel from the Ice” and “Urmel Full Speed Ahead”, as well as several smaller projects.

Other presentations from the 3D field include “Dramaturgical Lighting Design in the CG Feature Film” and “Modelling Techniques in Cinema 4D”.

First 3D Projects from Universities

For the first time, the second digital creation days will provide a presentation area for university research projects relating to 3D visualisation. Universities and universities of applied sciences can present their projects free of charge, giving them an opportunity to make contact with potential sponsors from industry. Interested university representatives and students can contact the digital creation days project team until 17 October 2008.

Key Visualisation Topics

The second day of the digital creation days focuses on product, industrial and architectural visualisation. On Thursday, 13 November 2008, Thorsten Jasper Weese will speak about “Image Design in Virtual Product Photography”. He is Manager and CGI Director at Recom GmbH, one of Europe’s most capable and creative print post-production and CGI studios for marketing stills.

The company’s international clients include brands such as Mercedes-Benz, AMG, Porsche, Hyundai, Nissan and Mitsubishi, as well as prominent names in marketing photography.

Further highlights in the visualisation section include the workshops “3D Configurators for Mercedes-Benz Buses — A Case Study” by Franz Josef Rapp of EvoBus and Marc Herling of Lumo Graphics GmbH, and “Digital Presentations in Construction — Multiple Benefits in Acquisition and Documentation” by Rüdiger Mach of Mach:Idee.

Practical Workshop Topics

Alongside the key topics of 3D and visualisation, the workshop programme includes the following focal areas:

Post-production: editing, compositing, audio, colour correction

Management: financing, project management, business development

Using project examples, the experts explain software applications and business models and provide advice for company founders, managers and project leaders. In total, the programme offers 50 presentations, numerous company presentations and a panel discussion on “Founding and Building a 3D Company”.
