To improve video image quality, MotionDSP is now using the computing power of NVIDIA’s CUDA technology. CUDA is a programming environment that allows developers to write software that performs highly complex calculations faster by harnessing the enormous parallel computing power of the graphics processor’s many processing units.
With CUDA and NVIDIA GPUs, MotionDSP’s software engineers were able to increase numerical-computation performance by 500%. Visitors to NVIDIA’s NVISION08 in-house event in mid-August were the first to see the capabilities of MotionDSP’s video-processing technology combined with CUDA. Users can use it to process videos recorded with a mobile phone, digital camera, camcorder, or from the internet. MotionDSP can extract more detail from “blurry” video recordings.
MotionDSP’s software, code-named “Carmel,” reads pixel information from video frames and then calculates a new video with better image quality from this data. Information from different video frames can also be incorporated into a new frame. The software restores missing details caused by excessive movement during recording.
MotionDSP plans to launch a finished version of Carmel in the first quarter of 2009.
